Kalu’ak Rep
Since I’ve been spending more time in Northrend it seemed like a good idea to start reputation grinding with another faction.
The Kalu’ak was the obvious choice as Exalted reputation will allow one to purchase the Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole and the Nurtured Penguin Egg for the adorable Pengu pet.
I followed the Kalu’ak Reputation Guide, completed all the quests and unlocked the repeatable dailies.
There doesn’t appear to be any grinding with this reputation – simply repeat the three dailies at about 500 reputation each until Exalted. The Guide states about 14 days and this sounds correct as I am 1860/21000 into Revered.
The daily quests are not too difficult – the only one I’ve had problems with is the “Planning for the Future” quest as if the mobs swarm me, well, I’m dead. Plus there is a giant elite wandering around so one has to plan accordingly.
I’m getting better at it – I didn’t die at all yesterday – so it’s just a matter of running the dailies for a couple of weeks until I can get that fishing pole and pet!
As as added bonus, while working on the Kalu’ak dailies, the Recipe: Haunted Herring and Recipe: Bad Clams dropped. Now I have something to cook with all those Fangtooth Herrings I’ve been fishing up.
Outland Daily Cooking and Fishing Quests
Still no luck getting any recipes with the daily cooking quest, but I did receive another Bucket Pet – Muckbreath from the Bag of Fishing Treasures for the Daily Fishing Quest.
Muckbreath is exactly the same as Toothy except for a different skin. If I’m lucky I’ll also be able to get Chuck and Snarley.
The next day, the Bag of Fishing Treasures contained the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat.
I’ve been spending a lot of time fishing so it’s great to get a little extra fishing boost and be suitably attired!
Noblegarden Event
The Noblegarden Event began on Sunday and as this was my first time I was determined to get the Spring Rabbit pet. It can be dropped from an egg, but it can also be purchased for 100 chocolate, so I spent a couple of hours running around collecting eggs until I had about 130 chocolates and purchased the Spring Rabbit’s Foot.
Of course, after I purchased it I found two dropped from the eggs.
Oh well.
At least collecting all the eggs and chocolate gave me all the Noblegarden Achievements. The only one I have left is the “Shake Your Bunny-Maker” as I need to find a female Orc, Troll, Tauren and Undead to complete the achievement.
I believe these are Horde races, and it didn’t seem like a good idea to go running into Orgrimmar looking for them, so I thought the next best idea would be to hang around the neutral areas and see if anyone showed up.
I made a quick tour through Rachet, Everlook and Gadgetzan but just found a Blood Elf (has anyone ever seen a female Tauren?)
An Epic Surprise!
My last stop was Booty Bay – still no one around – so I thought while I was there I’d go to the Bloodsail Compound and grind for some Volatile Rum.
About half an hour later I looted an Epic item – the Hyacinth Macaw!
Yes, I know this sells for about a gazillion gold at the Auction House but considering how much time I’ve spent running around the ships, shore and compound trying for this extremely rare pet I’m keeping it!
I still have to wonder if the drop rates have been increased since the last patch or if I have just been unusually lucky – either way, it’s exciting to finally have this beautiful bird!
Maybe I should try again for the Dark and Emerald Whelping pets….
