Yes, I know “friendly Horde” is an oxymoron if you’re Alliance, but it was the holiday season…
During the break I decided to get my Priest to level 85 before the holidays were over while I had the extra time.
I was working quests in Deepholm – ugh I don’t like that place – and was finishing up one of the “kill the boss” quest chains.
When I arrived at the location, it was quite busy with other players taking turning killing the boss and waiting for respawns.
An Alliance toon had just killed the boss and a Horde Blood Elf and Tauren were next in line so I just emote /sat my toon and waited since I wasn’t in any hurry.
The two Horde attacked the boss and were having a bit of trouble getting him down (losing a lot of health in the process), so I joined in the fight and helped them kill the boss before anyone died.
After the fight the Tauren left, but the Blood Elf stayed and through emotes indicated that he would help me with the boss once it respawned.
The boss respawned and we attacked, but apparently another Alliance toon had appeared and tagged the boss so I didn’t get credit for the kill.
I emoted a /cry and the Blood Elf again indicated he would wait with me. Finally the boss respawned and this time the two of us brought him down easily and I got the quest completed.
We /waved and /bowed to each other and went our separate ways. I’ve met a lot of nice, helpful friendly players on this server, but this was the first time I’ve seen a Horde go out of his way to help an Alliance toon.
Yes, it must has been the holiday spirit.
Level 85
I reached the magic level 85 and continued working quests through the zones.
I’ve been enjoying Cataclysm as there seems to be a nice mix of the usual quests types so it doesn’t get monotonous and boring. Even the dreaded “vehicle” quests don’t appear to be as “buggy” and I admit can sometimes be fun.
Since I had the time, I worked on the Cataclysm Exploration and Loremaster Achievements and managed to get both in a couple of days.
So far my favorite zone has been Uldum and I especially enjoyed the Harrison Jones quests.
I have yet to find any Mysterious Camel Figurines, but I keep looking every time I do the dailies.
Back to Strathlome
I hadn’t been back to Strathlome to try for the Deathcharger’s Reins since Cataclysm was released, so while working on Archaeology in the area I thought I’d take a quick run through the instance.
I have to say that at level 85 it was the fastest run yet – I got through it in about 10 minutes – Mind Spike for the win!
Aggro was almost zero, and unless I deliberately ran into a mob I could run around packs of them with no problems.
I made it to the Baron, brought him down in less than a second, and there was the loot I’ve been waiting for – the Deathcharger’s Reins!
One thing I noticed that was different from previous runs – when the Baron died his horse disappeared. I’m not sure if this is a Cataclysm change, or if the horse disappeared because it jumped into the loot table.
Either way, I’m excited I finally got my Priest the Deathcharger!
Now, if only the Deathcharger could fly…
