Anyone who has played World of Warcraft more than a week has probably run into that particularly nasty aspect of the game known as Bots.

Azshara

I had finished up my dailies and since I had some time I thought it would be fun to try and get my Priest an Azure Whelpling (well, she’s blue too!)

There was another toon running around and I didn’t pay much attention to it until a few times it would stop and try to skin my kills if our paths crossed.

It happened often enough that I would stop looting until the toon left as one can’t skin until a mob is looted.

Since it exhibited other rather “suspicious” behavior, I submitted a ticket as I am certainly no expert on determining bots – that is up to the GMs.

I finally got my Azure Whelpling for my Priest and also had an Epic mace drop – take that, you rotton bots!

Swamp of Sorrows

I left the bot in the care of the GMs and headed over to the Swamp of Sorrows to see if I would be lucky enough to get the Tiny Emerald Whelpling for my Priest’s collection.

No pet, but this time there were multiple bots running around the area.  I admit it is sometimes difficult to distinguish bot behavior from legitimate players, but this was blindingly obvious.  I won’t give any details because I wouldn’t want to encourage “bot-wannabes” – I submitted another ticket and left it to the GMs to investigate.

Wetlands

I was getting so disgusted with the “bot-a-thon” I thought I’d try the Wetlands for the Tiny Crimson Whelpling.

At last, no bots.  Just a few “real” players in relative peace and quiet.  And I had my Whelpling drop!

I went back to the Swamp of Sorrows and the bots had magically disappeared.  Sometimes it seems as if the “War” in World of Warcraft is not so much beating the bosses as it is fighting against bots.

Gretta

Gretta hasn’t been very cooperative in giving me the Reins of the White Polar Bear – all she’s been handing out lately are snowballs, so…..
